  1. Yes.

Most of the time I wear one because riding fast without a helmet is very uncomfortable and distracting.

I don't wear one for short errends.

  2. I could NEVER respect someone who chose not to protect their kids with a seat belt.. That was directed to one of the above posters. I forget his name. I'll always wear a helmet, no matter the law.

  3. I'm in Arizona and there is no helmet law. I wear one when it's cold, I like having the choice. When I die I'm not planning on turning my body in in good condition,

  4. I live in Arizona and there is no helmet law. I used to not wear a helmet every once in a while, but not anymore. After having two kids I now have something to stay alive for and went out and bought a Shoei full face helmet and gear up with jackets, gloves, boots--even in the hot months because I don't wish to have my flesh scrubbed out if I ever go down. My sister in law went riding with me last weekend--she's from Indiana--and we went on the freeway for about 35 miles. The high rate of speed that cages were going was enough for her to stop by the Harley dealer and buy a new helmet. It scared the h**l out of her. The thing that gets me here is the number of people that wear shorts--not just saying that because of road rash, but bugs and other flying debris hurt ALOT.

  5. I don't have to, but I wear one.  Wrecked a couple and the helmet has saved the noggin.  It's strange that the motto is "loud pipes saves lives" but the very people with loud pipes won't wear a helmet, which saves way more lives than pipes. Kinda hypocritical isn't it.

But it is a person's choice, until my insurance goes up because of their choice.

  6. Yes, I live in a state without a helmet law.

No, I never wear a helmet.  I've heard the safety debate untold number of times, but I enjoy riding with the wind in my face and blowing through my hair.  I find helmets are too confining and uncomfortable.

Why is it that a lot of people on this site resort to name calling (stupid, fool, etc.) if others do not agree with them or conform to their ideas and way of thinking regarding helmet use.  The last I knew this was still a free country.  Name calling doesn't give your opinion any credibility.

  7. don't have to, but I do anyway.

I ride fast, take chances.  I have seen a guy on latenight death ride in Mpls. metro.  We were flyin around a lake drive (way fast) and the only guy (out of 60+) who didn't have on a helmet tried to go around us near front of pack.  He didn't see that we all were slowing to let a truck make left turn.  When he saw it, he endo'd over bars, glanced off truck and slid, slid, slid, rolled onto his face as I rode behind lighting him up w/my headlight.  He lived.  But he was in coma for a month and had to live at Courage Center tolearn how to open a can of Coke again.  He is messed up.

Plus, I had a helmet save me riding moto-x.  My helmet split down the side, but saved me from worse injury for sure.

    WEAR ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

  8. If my bike is off the center stand, the helmet, gloves, Phoenix jacket and boots are on my person. We do not have a mandatory law. I dress to crash every time I ride.

  9. i live in L.A.

    i split traffic

    i speed

    i go to canyons.

    i wear a helmet

i would wear a helmet even if it was not mandatory.

    P.S. So_Cal, where in state r u? :o)

  10. I do not believe the federal, state or local government has the right, or should have the right, to make laws that impose or take away your choice, but they have made such laws in certain area's and they should be followed.

This is true with not only helmets, but also seat belts, and protective articles for children.  These matters should be left up to the discretion of the parents, not the government.

That being said, although I am against the laws making helmets mandatory,  if not for the use of a helmet, I would not be here today, as one absolutely saved m life during a cycle accident some thirty years ago.  So, make the right choice when riding, law or no law, they do save lives.

    To Mullin 12:

"I could NEVER respect someone who chose not to protect their kids with a seat belt.. "

If this statement was direct at me, stick it !

Obviously you missed the point of my statements, which is, I think the government has taken too much conrtrol over our every day lives, where we have little choices anymore and just about every move we make is either conforming to, or against a law.

If there are any moves you or I might make that is not under some sort of control by the government, please let me know cause I can't think of many myself.

I didn;t say a parent should not take care of the safety of our children, I just implied the government should not get involved in our everyday lives.

I am Opal's husband, over 81 years old, and raised three kids without the help of any government , so I  don't agree with all of these laws which are basically designed as more ways to raise revenue, and not to protect us in any way.

  11. In my country it is a requirement by law.Yes,I would even if not required, used it a few times and if i hadn't been wearing i would not be writing this.Any one who rides without the basics, helmet, gloves and boots is a fool.

  12. ,Yes I live in a state without a helmet law. No I do not wear a helmet. I don't wear one because they are uncomfortable and hot. I'm 70 yrs old and I find it very iritating when some one younger than me starts the lecture with all the standard negatives, like "brain dead", "vegetable", etc, etc. I'm sure you've heard them all. It's my choice, let me alone. If you want to wear one that's your choice and I will let you alone. It seems people just have to tell other people how to live. Nice talking to you, KJ

  13. We have a helmet law, but I was in Florida the other week. I still wore mine. I even wear it if buzzing around on my property. Better safe than drooling.

  14. In California, helmets are mandatory.  If they weren't, I would still wear one.  As a youngster, a spill landed me on my head.  The helmet cracked, but not the noggin.

I understand those who say it is a choice.  My choice is to wear the helmet regardless.

    Good luck, and Happy riding.

  15. the whole point is...you have the right to choose, not the goverment.

  16. Dingram1 is on the money! " Better safe than drooling". Why wouldn't you wear a helmet? If you have no brains and are happy without them maybe? It's an image thing I guess! Who cares what others think! It's your head, not theirs!!

  17. My state requires a helmet. I agree with it because I've seen people that were not wearing one and some have had brain damage as a direct result of crashing without a helmet. I witnessed a crash once and it was ugly. I saw the guy go down, and I literally saw his brain on the ground. The memory still sickens me to this day. He wasn't wearing his helmet either, and when I saw the report the next day it was reported that he was drunk too, causing his bravado most likely, and also his loss of control. His helmet was strapped to his seat behind him. So senseless....

  18. We have the helmet law in California. I probably would wear it 99% of the time. Of course, that 1% is when I'd crash and smash my brain. I like Russian trying to pick up SoCal on here!

  19. Helmet law in TX requires under 21 to be helmeted.

I wear a helmet because I think its a good idea but am against mandatory helmet laws for adults.

  20. jeesus! i think everyone should wear a helmet.

it doesn't matter how careful you are on a bike, you cannot control those around you, and if you are hit, your brains will be spilt all over!!! to me it's good to have that at least as some protection, as you don't have very much riding a motorcycle.

  21. Have you ever bumped your head on a cupboard door left open?

So you know what will happen if you hit the pavement at even 20km........ and you don't want to wear a helmet because.......???

I always wear my helmet and my children wear a helmet while on any toy with wheels, even in the driveway.  No helmet.... No ride!

  22. In Utah it's not required to wear a helmet but I still wear one. You either get a full face helmet or not get one at all. It pissed me off when I see "cool" guys flying on the freeway without a helmet in shorts.. Why take the risk??  Bugs , rocks ,dust are a pretty good factor for me to wear one.
