  1. I had a helmat that had a strap, under my chin, and in the back of my head. So i could adjust it to fit my head.

But my dog eat it. lol.

    So now i ride helmatless.

  2. It depends on what kind of helmet you want. I'd go to a different tack shop, and get your head measured. And get a helmet there.

For instance, I have an IRH helmet doesn't have one of those dial things on it, so I can't adjust it, when I grow out of it/break it. It's a new one for me.

But I'd get one with a dial, that way you can adjust it.

    Good luck1

  3. You should get one of those dial fit system helmets. They are adjustable and I have a wierd shaped head and mine fits me perfectly. You know a helmet fits when you put the helmet on and you move the front part up and down on your head. If that piece of skin on your forehead moves up and down with the helmet, it fits. You just have to make sure it is not too tight.

  4. Well if you found a helmet in the store that is the same brand as the one you are getting off-line, then judge from there...as in if it is made by the same company...the sizing will be the same...also if your sizing is approximate, most helmets have that precision fitting system thing in them now..so you can adjust it to fit your knoggen perfectly! .....i just busted my old helmet in two pieces after a bad fall & had to finally buy a new one!!

Edit: Horse Jumper...why are you riding with out a helmet...if you are under 18 its illegal in most states & in all of Canada...and ahh!! You can become a vegtable SOO fast...as my answer says above...I cracked mine right in half about a month ago...my horse fell over on me...(spooked at cows...lost balance blah blah blah) but that coulda been my skull!! AHH!!

  5. Helmet sizes should be numbered, not small, medium, or large. If that's what was offered go to another store.

Your helmet should not be tight and should move just slightly on your head. Snug is good but not too snug because you will get a headache if it's tight. The people at the store should be helping you and providing guidance. Don't turn away their help on something this important.

  6. For the most part, you have to go to the tack shop to try some on. If you're going to be showing, put your hair up in a net while trying them on so it's not too tight.

What kind of helmets did you try in the store?

If they are not proper horseback riding helmets, you shouldn't wear them. Bike helmets don't work.

    I would say most people are between 7 and 8. I wear a 7 3/8 for schooling, 7 1/2 for showing.

If you don't have access to a tack shop, just get a dial-fit helmet.

    EDIT:

I was just looking at Tipperary Sportage helmets, and those sizes are in M, L, XL, etc. There's usually a sizing chart on the side of the box to translate to the sizes used by other brands.

  7. Funny you should ask, i just ordered my helmet a little while ago and had the same issue. After tons of internet research(reliable sourcesLOL!) This is what i found

To measure for a helmet you are supossed to measure your head, 1 inch above your eyebrows. Measure all the way around, including the tips of your ears. Take that measurement and compare it to the chart

Good luck, and I would suggest getting one a little bigger than needed. It said that i needed a medium but it was too small and i had to send it back

  8. Helmet sizes are the same as hat sizes. Measure your head in inches right around the part where your helmet would go. Then google a hat size chart to see what hat size your measurement corresponds to.
