Helmond Sport 1-5 SBV Excelsior, Alex Pastoor delighted with the win –Promotion/relegation play-offs
SBV Excelsior thrashed Helmond Sport 5-1 in the first-leg of Eredivisie promotion/relegation play-offs final round at Lavans Stadium on Thursday, May 26. Alex Pastoor, SBV manager, was pleased with his troops’ impressive performance on the pitch. His side
have done the world of good to their chances of playing in Dutch top flight in the upcoming season.
“We wanted to give them no chance and we succeeded. We wanted to decide it in the first-half, but unfortunately we didn’t. In the second-half, we happily continued unperturbed.” Pastoor said.
The Kralingers started the match impressively and were in no mood to take the Eerste Divisie outfit easily. Roland Bergkamp scored the opening goal of the evening for the visitors in the fourth minute. After conceding an early goal, the home side started
to show some resistance and much of the action was then played restricted to the centre of the park, making proceedings rather dull to watch. Neither side managed to create any http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-c30728 goalscoring opportunity and left the field at the interval with the visitors
leading 1-0.
Helmond Sport started the second-half looking for an equaliser, but were outdone by the ruthless Kralingers. The visitors were awarded a penalty in the 53rd minute and Ryan koolwijk coolly slotted home the team’s second of the evening. In the
66th minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Guyon-Fernandez-c15479 found the back of the net to make the score-line read 3-0.
It was simply a one-way affair, as the Kralingers were dominating proceedings at Lavans Stadium. In the 71st minute, Kevin Wattamaleo netted yet another goal to quench the home side’s hopes of coming back into the match. Eight minutes later, the
Kralingers scored their fifth goal of the night, as Edwin de Graaf also added his name to the score-line. Guus Joppen pulled one back in the dying minutes of the match to make it 5-1, but it was all too late for the home side as the referee blew the final
whistle to end the match.
Pastoor believes that his side has now every chance to reappear in the Eredivisie next season. “This is a good step, Sunday we will make it.”
Both sides will meet in the return leg at Stadion Woudestein on Sunday, May 29.
