The Eerste Divisie outfit’s boss was disappointed with his side’s 2-1 loss against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VVV-Venlo-c40915, but insisted that they will try their level best to earn promotion to Eredivisie by winning the return leg.
Helmond Sport manager, Hans de Koning, has insisted that the promotion/relegation battle is not over despite his side’s 2-1 loss in the first-leg of the play-offs at the hands of VVV-Venlo. The two sides met at Lavans Stadion on
Thursday, May 17.
The home side commenced proceedings aggressively and had the first opportunity of the match in the ninth minute. However, Erik Quekel shot straight at the VVV goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dennis-Gentenaar-c10917.
Venlose Trots came close to breaking the deadlock three minutes later, but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-Holla-c10209’s curling effort hit the crossbar, much to the dismay of VVV coach Lokhoff.
The Helmond outfit goalkeeper, Bjorn Sengier, made a brilliant save five minutes before the half-time interval to deny Michael Uchebo’s effort, as the two sides went in goalless.
After the half-time break, the hosts continued to mount pressure on the visiting side’s back-line and eventually took the lead near the hour-mark.
Sebastian Stachnik found Youssef Koubali inside the penalty area, and the midfielder coolly fired into the bottom left corner of the net. The home side could have doubled their advantage in the 69th minute, but Stachnik
failed to hit the target after an error from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jeffrey-Leiwakabessy-c18267.
Four minutes later, VVV managed to level the score-line with Ismo Vostermans adding his name to the score-sheet. A http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Holla cross was headed home from close range by the 23-year-old stopper.
The hosts pushed to score the winner in the remaining time, but they conceded another three minutes from the final whistle. Holla’s fierce strike from 18 yards sealed a 2-1 win, and gave Venlose Trots a narrow advantage in the
return leg.
De Koning was disappointed with the loss and admitted that his side threw away the lead.
“It was extremely annoying that we gave away the lead in such an easy way. However, the battle is not over yet and we will try our best to emerge victorious in the return leg”, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 goalkeeper was quoted as saying
to the media.
VVV will host Helmond in the return leg at De Koel Stadion on Sunday, May 20.
