Helmut Marko: Lewis Hamilton ‘highlight’ topic for Red Bull Racing Team – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing Team’s motorsport advisor Helmut Marko has said that the 2008 Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton is a ‘highlight’ topic for the team these days.
Marko said they are considering him as a potential full season driver for the team for their 2012 season.
“First we have to see how the season goes for Mark Webber and what he decides. Definitely with his aggression and his speed, Hamilton must always be a topic. Our philosophy is to have the quickest drivers together in our team,” said Marko.
These developments arose when Lewis Hamilton said that he wants to win titles as soon as possible and wasting another year in 2011 would affect his career dearly. Because of his statement, it was assumed that he was willing to leave McLaren in pursuit of
his dreams.
“I'm going to be in Formula One for some time, and you never know which way the wind will take you,” said Lewis.
According to some rumours, Hamilton has been linked to a move to Red Bull Racing Team after the 2011 Formula 1 season since the new McLaren MP4-26 is not as fast as the RB7 of Red Bull.
The MP4-26 was well off the pace of Ferrari and Red Bull Racing Team during the pre-season testing sessions. However, at the first free practice session of the Australian Grand Prix, the team applied new upgrades to its car which paid off well. Lewis Hamilton
was able to secure the second place on the grid at the qualifying session before finishing the race in 2nd place behind the race winner Sebastian Vettel.
The gap between Hamilton and the reigning world champion in terms of lap times during the qualifying session was over 7 tenths of a second. Analysts believe it is not going to be easy for McLaren to make that much ground unless they apply some major new
upgrades or improvements to their new car.
