Helmut Marko: Marussia and Hispania Racing Team should pay more attention – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team advisor Helmut Marko has said that the contenders in the last places especially Marussia and Hispania Racing Team (HRT) should pay more attention to their drives on track and must get out of the way of the leading cars.
Marko expressed his views after the 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix in which Sebastian Vettel had a collision with HRT driver, Narain Karthikeyan and dropped from sixth position to eleventh finish. Moreover, the German driver was eying a fourth place finish before
his tyre got punctured on which the team advisor said, “Those are 12 points Vettel lost that could be crucial in the world championship.”
Furthermore, Marko told his team manager to communicate both the teams to “pay more attention.”
“We have told our team manager to talk to both Marussia and Hispania about getting their drivers to simply pay more attention,” said the 68-year-old. “They are driving in another league, they’re six or eight seconds slower, and so they need to watch out
more than they do.”
In addition, he also asserted on the clash of Vettel and Karthikeyan and defended his team driver while saying, “You’ve just been in a race, you’ve seen the chance of possibly a third place go away — you're naturally upset because he’s a human as well. I
think we can understand an emotional reaction like that.”
It will be interesting to mention here that Vettel has not expressed any apologies on showing an arrogant expression to the Indian driver.
Despite facing difficulties due to the upgrades made in the car on the last day of the final pre-season test held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Red Bull were still considered as the front-runner. However, they also struggled during the qualifying
of both the races and have not been able to explore full potential of RB8 until now.
Nevertheless, the defending champions are bringing out the best in them to make the substantial advancements and the essential preparations to enhance the pace of the car for the season ahead.
Besides, Vettel said that he is confident that they will strike back in the next two races in China and Bahrain.
