Helmut Marko: Sebastian Vettel was not called to report at Milton Keynes after Malaysian GP
Dr Helmut Marko, motor racing consultant of Red Bull Racing has denied that their team driver Sebastian Vettel was called to report at their headquarters in Milton Keynes this week to clarify his stance at the 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix held at Sepang International
Circuit.
During the second GP, Vettel had a clash with Narain Karthikeyan of Hispania Racing Team (HRT) and later the double world champion even signalled quite an arrogant expression to the HRT driver and called him ‘cucumber’.
However, he was immensely criticized afterwards for his strange behaviour during the race.
Moreover, Vettel who could not be able to secure even one point in the second race and finished at 14th position, did not follow the orders from the team to retire his car which were given because according to them the temperature of his car’s brakes had
been raised to an extremely dangerous level.
Conversely, it has been speculated that Vettel ignored the instructions from the team intentionally.
However, the team said later, that his radio was out of order due to which he could not get the message whereas the case seemed to be opposite.
Furthermore, it has been reported that Vettel admitted that he deliberately overlooked the orders. Nevertheless, Marko backed up Vettel and said, “That is all nonsense. Sebastian did nothing – absolutely nothing – that was against our wishes.”
In addition, with regard to the rumours of Vettel’s being summoned to the headquarters, Marko said that he was scheduled to be there quite a long time back in order to work with the team staff to make the substantial developments and the necessary preparations
for improving the pace of the car in the forthcoming races.
Additionally, Marko also strike back on the issue which was raised after Vettel showed his middle finger to the Indian driver during the race at Sepang and it was rumoured that the defending champion could be penalized by International Automobile Federation
(FIA) because of violating the code of conduct.
“The matter was resolved during the meeting with the stewards (in Malaysia). For me, the case is closed,” said Marko.
