Helmut Marko believes Felipe Massa was quicker than Fernando Alonso in Korean GP – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team advisor has said that Felipe Massa of Ferrari was quicker than his teammate, Fernando Alonso in the 2012 Korean Grand Prix and insisted that his team must have allowed him to fight for second podium.
Massa performed quite convincingly in the last race held at Korea International Circuit and secured an impressive fourth place finish behind Alonso. However, Marko believes that the Brazilian driver had a better pace than the Spaniard and asserted that the
Scarlet team should have permitted him to take the fight to Mark Webber of Red Bull who secured second podium finish.
“Massa was a lot faster than Alonso and Webber was in position to attack bot,” Marko said. “And even if the operation had bought Massa nothing it would have been easy for Alonso to get back past his team-mate.”
It will be important to mention that even though Massa told on radio that he was faster than the two-time world champion ahead of him and he could hunt down Webber but the race engineer, Rob Smedley ordered him to keep his car behind his teammate.
“You're a bit too close to Fernando,” Smedley said. “I think you can stay within two or three seconds - that should be okay.”
Afterwards, the 31-year-old expressed that he could have attained better results if he had been allowed to pass Alonso in the preceding race. Nevertheless, he said that he is feeling very happy with his result in the previous race and is hoping to keep up
the level of consistency in the remainder of the current season so as to be able to secure a good position in this year’s championship fight.
“I think today the pace was very good to finish in podium and maybe even to fight with Webber,” he said. “I was happy to take best from car and to go out and I think that was very good for me.”
The Italian team has recently renewed Massa’s contract after seeing incredible improvements in his performance during the last few races and he is now confidently looking forward to deliver his best in the future.
