Helmut Marko declares that they have plenty of work to do – Formula 1 news
Helmut Marko, the team advisor of Red Bull Racing has declared that they need plenty of work to do in order to get back to the front in 2012 Formula 1 season.
The defending champions are currently standing on second place in the constructors’ championship while Marko expressed that Adrian Newey, the team principal along with the Red Bull technical staff has made great efforts to build a competitive car for this
year.
“But it doesn’t help, if we are the fastest only in certain conditions, rather than consistently. To tell you the truth, at the moment it’s almost as though the car decides when it is the fastest, and when it is not,” said Marko.
Red Bull have won the last two championship titles out of which they completely dominated during the last season by taking 12 victories out of 19 Grands Prix.
However, they struggled on the ending day of the last pre-season test this year in which they came last on the timesheets and could only complete 23 laps, mainly due to upgrades made in RB8.
Afterwards, they faced problems in finding the true pace of the car and could not perform well during the qualifying of the first two races.
Nevertheless, they managed to secure second and fourth finish in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia with their pair of drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.
Conversely, Vettel could not secure even a single point in the second race held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia after the clash with Narain Karthikeyan of HRT.
Nonetheless, Vettel’s teammate, Webber has secured the same fourth place in the second GP and in overall standing in the drivers’ championship so far.
Furthermore, Marko defended his team driver, Vettel concerning his matter with Karthikeyan.
“We have told our team manager to talk to both Marussia and Hispania about getting their drivers to simply pay more attention,” he said. “They are driving in another league, they’re six or eight seconds slower, and so they need to watch out more than they
do. They are 12 points Vettel lost that could be crucial in the world championship.”
