Helmut Marko of Red Bull Racing says F-duct issue not over yet – Formula 1 news
Helmut Marko, the team advisor of Red Bull Racing has expressed that the issue of F-duct device is not over yet.
Moreover, it is expected that the tussle may go on to 2012 Chinese Grand Prix and the races ahead.
“It’s not over yet,” confirmed Red Bull advisor Dr Helmut Marko to Germany’s Auto Bild.
The defending champions, Red Bull and Lotus have been criticising the innovative design of Mercedes W03 this season. Red Bull have raised questions against the legality of the DRS-activated F-duct device and have been pushing International Automobile Federation
(FIA) to make the essential clarification in this regard.
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier threatened to protest against the results of the qualifying in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia, over the legitimacy of the Mercedes’ new design. Conversely, the head of technical department
of F1, Charlie Whiting called it legitimate.
However, recently, James Allison, the technical director of Lotus has raised another issue against the innovative technology of the Brackley based team that he is expects to question ahead of enquiry for the next weekend’s Grand Prix at China.
Furthermore, the team principal of Red Bull, Christian Horner has said that he hopes to get the response from Whiting ahead of the Chinese GP.
“Charlie Whiting, the technical delegate, has been taking it all into consideration and there were several discussions with him over the [Malaysia] weekend,” explained Horner. “I think he wanted to have a think about it and of we'll of course respect his
position when he makes that clear to us in China. Then the teams are faced with alternatives. Either accept it and get on it and maybe look at your own solution if that fits your car. You've got the opportunity to protest if we were to feel, or any other team
were to feel, that we didn't agree with Charlie's interpretation.”
He also said that he will keep on trying to push FIA for further technical explanation on the issue.
Besides, it has been speculated that Ferrari is on the side of Red Bull and Lotus while McLaren is staying out of the discussion on this matter, at present.
