Helmut Marko says Sebastien Buemi is a great driver despite below par statistics – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 driver Helmut Marko has said that Red Bull Toro Rosso’s Sebastian Buemi is a great driver despite the fact that his statistics so far in the 2011 season have not been as good as they should have been.
Buemi has not been able to reach the double figures when it comes to points in three years. He joined the sport back in 2009 with Toro Rosso and since then, he has secured a maximum of 8 points which was in the 2010 Formula 1 season. In the ongoing 2011
season however, he has secured 8 points in 9 races and it seems that this year might be his best statistical performance.
Toro Rosso have been producing some very sharp and consistent drivers as they groomed Sebastian Vettel, the reigning world champion in his early years as a result of which, the fans expect a lot from the team.
Buemi has been performing really well for the team though keeping in mind that they have been struggling to produce a good car since the past couple of years.
“I have confidence with the car, I'm fast, but luck is sometimes just not with you. Eventually it will come back to me,” he said.
As a result of his consistency, Marko believes that his race seat at the team is pretty much secure as compared to his teammate Jaime Alguersuari. It is expected that one of these two drivers might lose his race seat to Daniel Ricciardo.
However, the young Swiss owes it all to his grandfather Georges Gachnang who recently restored a Cooper Monaco. Gachnang contested Le Mans in a Cooper Monaco back in 1960.
“Without his passion, I would not have become a racing driver,” he said.
Nevertheless, Toro Rosso are currently in 7th place with 17 points ahead of both Force India and Williams in the constructors’ standings as both of the teams drivers have been performing consistently well in 2011 as compared to their rivals.
The upcoming race is expected to take place at the Nurburgring circuit where the team is hoping of scoring some pretty good points.
