Helmut Marko strikes back at McLaren, terms Lewis Hamilton as ‘crash kid’ – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team’s Helmut Marko has recently stated that Formula 1 has a new ‘crash kid’ now and that is McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton who has crashed out of a handful of races in 2011 as a result of which his championship run is pretty much over.
“It is not what you would expect to see in Formula One. Crash kid' was a McLaren media construct. Now they have a crash kid in their own team,” he said.
In 2010, McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh termed Sebastian Vettel the ‘crash kid’ after the Belgian Grand Prix since he crashed out of the race. However, the young German became the Formula 1 champion later on and proved his critics wrong who claimed
that he is not consistent enough to become a champion.
Hamilton is now being criticised from all ends as he ruined his championship run in the 2010 Formula 1 season as well and 2011 has not been any different either for him. It is quite disappointing to see such a fast and aggressive driver like Lewis Hamilton
wasting his talent like this as a result of which Niki Lauda also stated that the 2008 Formula 1 world champion needs to learn from Vettel.
“You can't win championships if you are crashing. Look at Sebastian Vettel, he is not making any mistakes or crashing, and that is why he is going to win the title again this year,” he told the media.
Despite the fact that Vettel did make a lot of mistakes in the 2010 Formula 1 season, one has to admit that he did become the youngest champion in the end and he made up for the points he lost by the end of the season.
Other than that, his 2011 run has been just outstanding as he has not retired out of a single race and is dominating the drivers’ standings like a true Formula 1 champion which reminds one of the time when the seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher
was dominating the sport back in the early 2000s.
