Helmut Marko thinks Sebastian Vettel needs to perform better in qualifying – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team advisor, Helmut Marko thinks that their driver, Sebastian Vettel needs to perform better in the qualifying of the approaching season so as to make his mark stronger in this year’s championship fight.
Vettel has been facing difficulties in the current season as compared to preceding one in which he completely dominated and took 11 grands prix victories. Presently, he is standing at 3rd position in the drivers’ rankings with 122 points. Moreover,
he is ahead of the 2008 world champion, Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and is just 2 points behind his teammate, Mark Webber who has performed exceptionally well in the first half of the season.
Even though, the leading driver, Fernando Alonso has a strong lead of 42 points over the defending champion, nevertheless, Vettel is not upset over the difficulties he is facing and is aiming to win the championship battle.
Furthermore, Marko believes that their veteran German driver is still in the title chase and will give every other contender a tough time in the upcoming races. However, he insisted that the two-time world champion must improve his qualifying pace in order
to take a competitive start to attain victories in the season ahead.
“The title is still entirely feasible for us. But Vettel needs to do better in qualifying,” said Marko.
In addition, he said that Vettel cannot afford any more breakdowns in the forthcoming races. Besides, he said that the lucky streak of the Spaniard who is at the top of the drivers’ rankings will end soon and they prepare to take advantage at that point
in time.
“Vettel doesn’t need five wins, but he can’t have any more failures. Alonso’s run is going to end sometime soon, and when it does we have to be there,” he added.
Additionally, he asserted that they are going to provide both their drivers with equal and fair opportunities to win this season’s championship fight.
“With us, both drivers may be world champion. So Webber can go for the title too,” he said.
Over and above, he said that they are targeting to score as much points as they can in the Belgian GP this weekend.
