Helmut Marko underplays Lewis Hamilton’s chances to join Red Bull Racing – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team advisor, Helmut Marko has underplayed the chances of Lewis Hamilton of McLaren joining their team for 2013 Formula 1 season.
Hamilton’s contract with the Woking based team is going to end at the conclusion of this season. Meanwhile, there have been many speculations that he may join Red Bull after this year. However, Marko has recently expressed that the 2008 world champion does
not fit their team’s structure.
“That Hamilton is considering his alternatives is fairly clear. But it has to fit with the team structure,” Marko said. “It doesn’t matter if you’re the fastest driver or not if it doesn’t fit with the team.”
It will be important to mention that the motorsport vice-president of Mercedes, Norbert Haug also signalled an open door for the British driver in their team.
“It is no secret that Lewis is a part of the Mercedes family,” said Haug.
Nevertheless, the team principal of McLaren, Martin Whitmarsh has expressed that they expect Hamilton to stay with his current team even after the expiry of his contract.
“There's much more speculation outside of team than inside team,” he said. “I think we're focused on winning races and winning a championship. I think it's very clear that we enjoy working with Lewis. I think Lewis enjoys being in this team. So we have full
expectation of that continuing.”
In addition, he said that they have sought out the issues due to which Hamilton faced difficulties in couple of races in the season so far. Moreover, he said that the Briton is very much pleased with the team as they have made some considerable improvements
in their operations. Besides, he said that their main target is to claim the championship title.
Hamilton is presently leading the drivers’ championship with 88 points after winning the Canadian Grand Prix held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10. Additionally, he is 2 points ahead of the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who has
a lead of just 1 point over the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel.
Over and above, he is focused and positively looking forward to perform well in the approaching season in order to fight for the championship title.
