Helmut Marko unsure about finalising drivers’ line-up of Toro Rosso – Formula 1 news
Helmut Marko has recently stated that he is not sure about the finalisation of the drivers’ line-up at Toro Rosso for the 2012 Formula 1 season as both of its drivers’ respective contracts will expire after the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Jaime Alguersuari recently admitted that he is not aware of the team’s plans yet and he is not sure about his stay at the team as a race driver either.
Red Bull Racing, Toro Rosso’s senior team however recently confirmed that they are going to keep Mark Webber for another year after which Alguersuari claims that it closes the doors for the junior team.
“I have nothing against him but it closes the doors at Red Bull and also stops the flow from the junior team,” said the 21-year-old.
Other than that, it is also believed that Toro Rosso wants to promote Daniel Ricciardo, who is currently driving for Hispania Racing Team as a replacement for either Sebastien Buemi or Jaime Alguersuari.
Reports suggest that the team might even go for two new drivers after the 2011 Formula 1 season including Jean-Eric Vergne as a result of which the situation is getting quite complicated for the two current Toro Rosso drivers.
“So far I have no place for next year, I haven't spoken to anyone at Toro Rosso about next season. What I want is a car that allows me to be in front and winning races because I think I deserve it. I don't like fighting to be sixteenth. I don't make excuses
but Vettel can brake 20 metres later with his car,” Alguersuari told El Mundo newspaper.
While Marko claims that it is too early to pass a verdict regarding this matter, it seems that the two drivers are going to have to wait. Since the situation is getting a bit complicated as well, the team might even consider some other options as well in
the process.
