Question:

Help, Anyone have experience buying a Shiba Inu puppy?

I live in the Washington DC area. I've been looking around MD/VA and DC but have not been able to find any shiba breeders nearby. I've also looked into adopting from local shelters but cannot find any male shiba puppies. (They are all either adults or young adults.)

I want to know if anyone here owns a shiba, and where you got it from. Or if anyone has experience purchasing a shiba puppy/any puppy from a breeder through the internet. I want to know if it's a legit way of buying a puppy because I don't have many options right now.

Here's one that is for $400-600 & 150 shipping by plane. They claim to be AKC certified.

I found their ad on this puppy search website (scroll to the bottom) :http://puppydogweb.com/caninebreeds/ads/index.htm

Please let me know what your experience was like and any related advice you can give me.

Thanks ahead for your help!

  1. try petfinder.com you might find some boys on there

  2. I would go to the National Shiba Club of America breeder directory:

    http://www.shibas.org/breeders.html

I have an almost two year old male Shiba Inu. I got him from a breeder that I found online, and she turned out to be an amateur breeder. I don't think she did enough to socialize the pups early on, and their temperament is only so-so. She did have health certifications and AKC papers though, but she didn't really care to keep up communications with us to keep track of how her pup is doing.

In contrast I got my second dog, a Siberian Husky from the Siberian Husky Club of America breeder list and she is just awesome. She came to visit my house first to make sure we would be good dog parents. She dropped off the puppy with a blanket, some toys, and some kibble (our first breeder didn't give us anything). And now, she sends me our local husky club newsletters, and invites me to all the husky events. She has also visited us a couple of times, and brought my husky's sister to come play with her. It really makes a big difference to get from a reputable club breeder.

Please let me know if you have more questions. Shibas can be a BIG challenge to take care of :) Here are some tips for when you get your Shiba puppy.

  3. did you try pet finder.com?maybe even type in google,Shiba Inu puppies for sale in Virginia or Maryland.I wouldn't trust buying a puppy through internet only. What would happen if they take your money and you get no puppy? That would suck a bunch.I'll try finding one for you.How old you want your baby?8,10,12 weeks?

kayz.here's a site of some in North Carloina so that is close right?can you and a parent(if still living with them)drive down there to get this baby or something?here.http://www.nextdaypets.com/directory/dog...

I plan on driving up to Wisconsin next year or maybe somewhere in Illinois or a nearby state to get my baby.it takes work but I wanna get a good breeder.Maybe a puppy from the shelter if they are available.

you can search some more there if you wanna.

  4. try petfinder.com or go to a vet and ask if they know any breeders
