Question:

Help, I'm being held hostage by my local phone company!?

I want to cancel my phone line and use only my cell phone for calls and long distance. Problem is, I have to have the land line to keep my DSL internet service! So basically I'm paying an extra $30.00 per month just to keep the land line just to keep my DSL.

Do you know of any other internet connection options at home that would be cost effective?

I may just have to cancel my cell phone if nothing else works......

  1. try qwest...i have dsl with a phoneline

  2. Need to keep your land line to have DSL, sorry! You could get a wireless connection through your cell phone carrier but that'll cost you a pretty penny.

Check into neighborhood cooperative internet associations in your neck of the woods. Now THERE's a good alternative! I'd highly advise it! (Some ol' grumps won't.) Here's the deal: we were on DSL: $26 per month.

Cooperative Internet. Wireless. A lot faster. Buy your own equipment. Receive via radio or satellite. Cost? $26 per month. Blazing fast! (Much faster than DSL!) Downside? A little work: Attend monthly cooperative meetings. PARTICIPATE! PERHAPS...even help with operations of the cooperative. Be a good neighbor. Grass roots.

  3. There is some thing called naked DSL which means that it does not require a phone line to run on...Call up ur company or some other companies in your area and find out whether or not they provide this service or not.

  4. I mean, if you're happy with DSL, I can't suggest anything other.

But -- you can switch to comcast cable internet.

I believe that does NOT require a landline. :)

  5. You can get the internet through cable. I have my internet through my cable company. It works even better than DSL.
