I'm a frosh girl in highschool. I've ran xc, indoor, and currently outdoor. And my outdoor season has been really bad. I lost a lot of my motivation to run. I went from being the 3rd fastest girl to one of the slowest and I know it's not because everyone else is getting faster.

In indoor, I did 12X400. All of them at 80-82. Now after one 400, I'm sick of it and I slow down a lot.

I really need to step it up. The season is ending in a few weeks. I'm really close to having enough varsity points too for a letter. Any tips? I want to get my third letter this year.

  1. In the outdoors, you run slower cuz of rugged terrain and temperature differences. You need to practice on hills and rough land.

  2. Running is at least 50% mental, and I know how it feels just to be tired of running, and lose motivation. My advice is to set goals for yourself  without creating expectations that are way to high. At practice, and also in races, find someone that is near your speed but slightly faster. Make it your goal to keep up with them, and pass them if you can. Or set a goal of dropping three or so seconds off your time ever time you run a certain event. Even this can boost your confidence. Also, running in the same setting can be extremely boring. If it's possible, try to pick a new location when you run on your own, to mix things up a little. Listening to music can also help pump you up during workouts. Whatever you do, don't give up on yourself. Remember a race where you did really well and focus on that when you're tired, instead of thinking of a race that didn't go well. Don't tell yourself that you're getting worse, just focus on moving forward one step in a time in your running.

Hope this helped, good luck!!! ;-)

  3. if you're loosing your motivation, you should go watch a track meet. i dont know about you but whenever i watch other people run it makes me want to run. push through the rest of your season, it shouldn't be too long. good luck!
