1. Is there a required State car inspection?

2. Is there an emissions inspection for cars?

3. If yes to the above, where do I go in the Tampa area for those inspections? or Where can I find info on them?

(I already checked at the DMV page and the page was being updated (for like 3 months now) and so there isn't info on it other than to say the law can be read at this link...and then it is just the date the law passed.)

If you can give me a link to the info that would be a big help.

Is there anything else I need to know?

  1. I don;t think inspection is reguired in the state..I live In west palm..its not required here, they did away with it.maybe call the florida state patrol ofc and ask

  2. If you are moving to Florida and are going to register your vehicle  in Florida then here is what most likely will happen (different counties and offices very)

    1. You will be asked for your title, or proof of registration (and information on lien holder if applicable)

    2. Your drivers License (May ask if you are going to update it at this time also)

    3. Proof of insurance and coverage provided.

    4. you will be charges a fee for bringing a vehicle into Florida ( i think its $500) and then normal registration fees.

    5. An official will do a vehicle inspection to check for road worthiness and appropriate VIN. (No Emissions test, but if your smoking they may ask for you to get one) (a) road worthiness is looking for good tires, working head lights, tail lights, break lights, turn signals, HORN, seat belts, windshield is not chipped or cracked, and they will check the odometer.

    6. You will be issued a tag or if you need to have something fixed they will offer a temp tag and have you follow up after the item(s) have been corrected.

Helpful hint Don't goto the DMV offices in TAMPA they are over packed with people with problems and the service people get tired quick dealing with them. Look just north of Tampa in Land O'Lakes to the DMV on HWY 41, just about a mile north of HWY 54. Its a small office, plenty of staff and a hidden treasure.

  3. no to both, but if you get stopped for any reason your car could be inspected on the spot. make sure it's up to code!!
