Help, I feel like the Mirena IUD has permanently damaged me. Is there supposed to be this much cramping?

I just had the Mirena IUD birth control put in yesterday morning. I was numbed and it still hurt worse than anything I've ever felt. I had to call the doctor to get some Vicodin because it hurt so bad. And that barely eased the pain. I am hurting so much I am in tears and it has been two days now. I feel like something is really wrong I had to call off work. Is this normal? Has anybody else felt like this? Please give me some advice. I was on the Depo for seven years but I had to change to this because I was having bone loss.

  1. Please consult a physician. this could be serious.

  2. Absolutely not.  If you are in so much pain that you are in tears, you need to call your doctor's office and have him/her paged or go to the ER.

If your doctor does not act or only prescribes you more medication - go to the ER.

Ask yourself, are you in so much pain that you are unable to sleep ?  If the answer is yes, then you shouldn't wait till the morning.

  3. It sounds to me that either your uterus is either trying to expell due to irritation, or your Dr may not have measured your uterus first and just put it in! I have had the mirena 2 times and I was never numbed, and it didnt hurt, I just felt a little crampy and that was only when they measured it to be sure it wouldnt perfurate my uterus. So if you are having this much pain I would definately have it removed, you can actually go to the ER and they will remove for you, and dont worry removing it is painless. And just know that they can cause PID, and your symptoms sound just like that as well!

Good Luck and I hope you feel better!
