In IL, where I live, they allow you to drive under your permit as long as you have a 18 year old. Well my friend is 18 and I was driving her car, I was doing 60 on a 45 mile zone! Got stopped by the cops, gave me a ticket, decided to go to court next month, but im getting my license this week. So does the DMV still let you get your license even if you have a tickert??

  1. dnt tell them u got a ticket... but pay it or the state will withold ur license but it want be listed in the system 4 14 days before the dmv sees it so take ur road test before it shows so they want hold them but they can be suspended if u dnt pay that ticket next mounth  ur  looking at a 200 dollar fine.. p.s slow down ok

  2. You are still innocent until proven guilty, so no, they cannot stop you from getting your license.

DO NOT plead NOLO (no contest).

    DO NOT plead GUILTY.

    DO NOT mail it in.

Go to the court on the date shown on the ticket.

Then, plead Not Guilty and ask for a bench trial.  Don't bother trying to plea your case now, the Asst. D.A. peons will only accept Guilty or Nolo pleas.  Don't waste your breath.

On this court appearance, you're just entering a plea.  That's it.  No decisions are made.

They will schedule your ACTUAL trial date for a later date, usually several months later.  And WHY plead guilty NOW when you can always change you plea at a later date?  PUT IT OFF!

Then immediately go and sign up for a Driver Safety class, like the ones they offer to DUI drivers.  DO IT.

When it comes time for your trial, come with your certificate in hand and ask to speak to the District Attorney or County Solicitor before your case is called (while everyone is mulling about, first thing).  Come dressed cleanly and be polite.  Explain to them that you realize your mistake and on the urging of a friend of yours who is a police officer, you went and took the safety class.  Show the certificate.  Ask if they will at least change your penalty to a non-moving violation so that your insurance doesn't go up.

If you are nice to them, they will gladly do that.  All they want is the money anyway.  (You WILL have to plea guilty to a lesser charge, hopefully non-moving, and you WILL have to pay a fine... but you should be able to avoid points on your license and keep your license if you do what I say.)

Then again, the D.A. and judge can be ball-busters and you'd be screwed.  IF that happens... at least you got to put it off for a bunch of months.

The stupidest thing to do is plea NOLO or guilty.  Don't do it.  THAT will come back to haunt you BIG TIME if you ever get another ticket (and you will).  And it is the dumbest thing that people do.  It's like RUSHING to pay the fine and getting it on your ticket!  How stupid is that?

I had one ticket that got set for a trial 6 months later... and then got rescheduled to another 4 months later.  So almost a YEAR LATER after the incident, I negotiated it to disobeying a traffic device, $75 fine and no points.  That was when I was 17.  I was 18 by the time of the trial, but the judge liked the fact that I took that safety class.

  3. Do not play games with this situation...It is not a criminal offense - yet...You must go to court and explain your case...If you decide to contest the ticket, your hearing should be re-scheduled for a later date...At that time, the issuing officer will probably be in attendance to present the law's side of the story...In which case - you lose.

Do not do anything in advance about the ticket - like going to traffic school - since traffic school is a 'sentence' by the court...Be prepared to pay a fine - perhaps a couple of hundred dollars.

The best thing to do is to get this issue resolved before you apply for a real license and make sure it is off your record...Got a copy of your driver record to make sure.

Bottom line is if you do not take care of this problem, THEN the court can issue a warrant for your arrest...You will not be able to get/renew your license or register a vehicle...If you are stopped ANYWHERE in the US, you can be arrested, taken to jail and the vehicle you're driving can be impounded...And then you will need an attorney and the infraction goes on your record

  4. Plain and simple, just go to court and see if you are able to take a defensive driving class, dont add fuel to the fire.......

  5. it's very questionable they may just revoke your permit.
