I'm going to fly from Sweden to Scotland, but I have to change planes in Copenhagen. I have never been on a plane before and I have no idea how it works what so ever. Could anyone please explain like, step-by-step, what you have to do, what to look for, and so on?

  1. 1. Get on plane

    2. Fly

    3. Get off plane

    4. Look for connection information/gate number on airport TVs (they will be easy to find right when you get off the first plane) Or alternatively, ask the gate attendant what gate you need to go to.

    5. Go to gate for next flight

    6. Get on plane

    7. Fly

    8. Get off plane.

    DONE

  2. You should be at the airport at least 1.5 hours before your flight. If you're going by taxi to the airport, tell the driver the name of your airline. This will allow him to drop you off at the right place.

When you enter the airport with your luggage, walk up to the airline ticket counter, and tell them you are checking in for a flight. Give them your passport. They may ask you some security questions, like whether you packed your bag yourself. They will apply a long tag with green stripes to your bag, which identifies your destination. They will take the bag from you and you will re-collect it in Scotland. They will also give you at least two cards called "boarding passes". The boarding pass will tell you what gate your plane leaves from.

Take your boarding passes and passport and proceed to the security screening area. You will need to remove all metal objects like keys, coins, mobile phones, etc. and place them on the X-Ray belt with any bags you might be carrying. KEEP YOUR BOARDING PASS AND PASSPORT WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES. Pass through the metal detector when the security guard waves.

Once you've passed security, follow the overhead signs to your numbered gate. Follow the instructions of the airline personnel to board the plane. They will take one of your boarding passes, and may return it to you after they scan it into the computer.

Once you're on the plane, find your seat and sit down. Make sure you put on your safety belt, and obey the instructions of the crewmembers.

When you arrive in Copenhagen, check your other boarding pass for a gate number. If there is no gate on the boarding pass, find a TV monitor that shows gate information, and look for your flight to Scotland. Go to the gate, and wait for them to board. You do not need to go through security or immigration or any other controls in Copenhagen.

When you arrive in Scotland, you will need to go through UK immigration and customs. Follow the signs to passport control, and join the line for "EU Citizens". The agent may ask you some questions about your trip, and stamp your passport. Proceed to the baggage claim area and try to find people whom you recognize from your flight. They're waiting for their bags too. It may take 20 -30 minutes depending on how busy the airport is.

Once you've picked up your luggage, go through the GREEN exit, unless you're leaving things behind in the UK, in which case you should follow the BLUE exit.

That's it! On your return trip, do everything again in the same order.
