Help, I need to know if anybody our there knows about dot regulations!?

I have a 3/4 ton pick-up truck that I want to use for hot shots. Do I need a dot permit to carry the most 2000 pds.? Thanks for your help. God Bless

  1. May vary by state.   Also,  if you will carry haz-mat at any time,  you will need to get the proper endorsement.  

    Best bet is to stop by the local DMV  and ask.


  2. No. The only time you would have to worry about permits is if you were carrying enough HazMat to require placards on your truck.

  3. Commerial vehicles that reqire a CDL (commercial drivers license) are 26,000 pounds or more. However, as terrellfastball stated, you need a CDL with a HazMat endorsementif you carry hazardous materials even under 26000 lbs. If you operate in only one state you do not have to have DOT numbers on your vehicle. However, if you operate in more than one state then you need to be DOT registered. Check the DOT website if you're unsure.

  5. No. The limit you can carry varies from state to state but normally you can weigh abound 12000 lbs before you need any special liscence, so your truck loaded should be under that. But if you are driving a company truck for someone else you may need to upgrade your liscense.
