Okay, so i have this informative speech to do for my speech class that has to last for 5-7 minutes. Im thinking about talking about how hydrogen cars work and the difference between hydrogen cars and regular electric hybrid cars. But the problem is i dont know anytihng about either of them. So i need some broad information, that i can look up and elaborate on, about how these cars work. Nothing too fancy, just terms and discriptions that the audience can understand.

  1. yes....u spelled hydrogen wrong.......

  2. Hydrogen is a flammable gas, just like natural gas that you burn in your stove. The original internal combustion engine used natural gas, not gasoline, so it is easy to make a regular car engine burn hydrogen.

A hybrid car is just an electric car that used a small gasoline engine running a generator to make electricity instead of using batteries. That sounds silly, right? But actually is is a good idea because gasoline engines are most efficient at only one speed, which is why you need a transmission to constantly change gears to keep the engine close to its ideal RPM as the car speeds up or slows down; but even then it is almost never at its exact best speed. The hybrid car runs its small engine at exactly the ideal speed all the time, storing any extra power in a small set of batteries. When the small engine cannot provide enough power, like climbing a hill, extra power is taken from the batteries, but you can't do that for very long without running down the batteries because they are small. When you are just idling at light or cruising at low speed, extra power is stored in the battery. If the battery is full, the engine shuts off for a while and you operate as a normal all electric car long enough to drain some of the charge from the batteries, then the engine starts up again. These little tricks can save quite a bit of gas compared to a regular car.
