  2. It seems to me that he means it's better to take a chance, even if you fail, than to fail because you're afraid to try.

    A website (listed in sources) that quoted the statement had this to say:

    We can't be so passive that we forego opportunities that require a certain amount of risk and daring.

  3. He's suggesting that in case you misjudge the correct approach, you're better off having chosen the one that's a little too daring rather than the one that's a little too cautious.

    If you can't decide between two courses of action, choose the riskier one rather than the safer one. A little too much risk is better than not quite enough.
