I've spilt some fake tan on my carpet, when i first did it i tried to wipe it up a bit and i thought it had gone, but it was white at that time, and of course the next day it changed colour and now i have big brown plodges on my carpet. Does anyone have any idea how to get it out - it's dried in now.

  1. ok...first answer:  try a product called Folex.  You can buy it at Home Depot for about $4.00 a spray bottle.  I've used it successfully for many a stain!  have a look at their website.

second answer: you can buy ammonia and peroxide at the grocery if you live in the States.  Ammonia in the cleaning products isle and peroxide in first aide.

buy the folex, you will be glad you did so!!!

  2. Search on the container for name and address, phone number, web site of manufacturer and get info from them.

  3. The solution used to remove fake tan was a mixture (approx 10:1) of 6% Hydrogen Peroxide with 880 Ammonia. With adequate ventilation and wearing gloves, apply a small amount of premixed peroxide/ammonia to the spot using a sponge. Blot the solution onto the spot; then gently rub with the sponge while applying heat from a hairdryer. The use of dry heat will concentrate the reactive species and provide energy to catalyse the reaction.

When the spot is nearly dry, evaluate the colour change. In each of our cases, we have observed a rapid colour change from brown to yellow, then a more gradual fading of the yellow. If the yellow colouration has almost disappeared, continue with the heat and gentle rubbing until the spot is completely removed. If not, a repeat application of pre-mixed peroxide/ammonia may be required.

    Good luck!!!
