Hi, Can any experienced mums please help me with potty training tips? The situation is this; My son is 31 months old and i just found out that there is a place available for him to start maternelle (french nursery school) in September. I have already made a start with training. At the stage now he will use the potty in his room for a pee pee if i leave him running around bare bottom half an hour after his meals. I give him lots of encouragement and he will use the potty but only when i strip him down and leave him to play. He wont tell me he needs a pee pee when he's fully dressed yet. Where do i go from here? Any advice please? I know it might be a bit early for potty training but if i can get him started in maternelle this year it would be so good for the both of us.

  1. When my son was almost 3 he was terrified of anything to do with toileting.  I bought a book called, How to toilet train your child in 1 day.  (There are several books like this out there, it doesn't matter which one you buy).  It was a very strict (but not mean) schedule that you do with your child, plus a script for you to say.  I did it (not exactly as the book said, but along the same lines) and my son was toiled trained in 3 days, which was fine with me.  If you plan to do this, you need at least 1 full day when you will be home alone with your toddler, not planning on going anywhere or doing anything.  Plus a lot of energy and fortitude as it will be a very tiring day for the two of you!!!  Good luck.

  2. Leave him in the potty until he uses the bathroom.

  3. i use 2 take my son the toilet every half hour an read him a toilet story every time usually it was 1 of his favourate bedtime stories it worked 4 me i never used a potty

  4. I have three boys and one baby girl. two of my boys are well passed the potty training stage and my youngest son is 38 months and still not trained. I have learned that with boys they just kind of do it in their own time, when they are ready. Just keep encouraging, and never make it an upsetting experience for him. When he does use the potty praise him extensively. Dance around, clap, sing a bubbly little potty song (make one up) and act really excited. That way he will want that attention again so he will use the potty again. Best of luck. Also have his dad or another male family member take him to the bathroom with them every time they go, that helps him learn from example. Plus he might even learn to put the seat down when he's done. hee, hee
