  1. Make a preparation of non - perishable food items. Keep that and blankets, flashlights, and a First-Aid kit in the bastement. Surround yourself with blankets, and pillows, if possible matresses work as well. If you here a tornado is coming, cover yourself immediately! Have a NOAA weather radio, or a battery-powered radio with you at all times, tuned into the local weather station. If TV is still possible to use, tune it into the WEATHER CHANNEL, and watch for local weather coverage, Local on the 8's, and the Red, Orange, or Yellow bar that scrolls along the bottom for Severe Weather Watches/Warnings/Advisories. NEVER LOOK TO SEE IF THE TORNADO IS COMING!! This is very dangerous, and if outside, you can get seriously injured with the winds blowing things around, or killed.

    Watches/Warnings/Advisories to look for:

*SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH: Storms are capable of producing strong winds in access of 65+ mph, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. Usually lasts for 4-8 hours when issued.

**SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING: Doppler Radar has indicated a storm capible of producing a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM. The storm is in the vacinity, so take shelter inside. Turn off all electronics, use NO water, or phone.

*TORNADO WATCH: Storms are capable of producing Tornadoes with winds in access of 80+ miles an hour. Take catious actions, and stay tuned to latest updates.

**TORNADO WARNING: Doppler Radar, and/or Storm Spotters have seen a tornado touch the ground. TAKE SHELTER IMMEDIATELY IN THE BASEMENT, or if you don't have a basement, use the BATHTUB.

IF THE STORM IS EXPECTED OVERNIGHT, IF YOU HAVE A NOAA WEATHER RADIO, KEEP IT ON LOW, SO YOU  CAN HEAR THE LATEST WATCHES, WARNINGS WHILE YOU ARE ASLEEP.

    STAY SAFE.

  2. tornado signs are:

       1. Strong, persistent rotation in the cloud base.

       2. Whirling dust or debris on the ground under a cloud base -- tornadoes sometimes have no funnel!

       3. Hail or heavy rain followed by either dead calm or a fast, intense wind shift. Many tornadoes are wrapped in heavy precipitation and can't be seen.

       4. Day or night - Loud, continuous roar or rumble, which doesn't fade in a few seconds like thunder.

       5. Night - Small, bright, blue-green to white flashes at ground level near a thunderstorm (as opposed to silvery lightning up in the clouds). These mean power lines are being snapped by very strong wind, maybe a tornado.

       6. Night - Persistent lowering from the cloud base, illuminated or silhouetted by lightning -- especially if it is on the ground or there is a blue-green-white power flash underneath.

what you should do is STAY INFORMED ABOUT THE STORM by listening to NOAA Weather Radio, commercial radio, and television for the latest tornado WATCHES and WARNINGS.

    what to listens for are:

        *  TORNADO WATCH: Tornadoes are possible in your area. Remain alert for approaching storms.

        * TORNADO WARNING: A tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar. If a tornado warning is issued for your area and the sky becomes threatening, move to your pre-designated place of safety.

        * SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH: Severe thunderstorms are possible in your area.

        * SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING: Severe thunderstorms are occurring.

and then here is a good article for you, it will help you stay alert and not panic when tornado comes.. in this article you will found what to do in every situation:

  3. Keep an eye on either the t.v. or radio station for the weather. Second, in case of a tornado, you want to be surrounded by as many walls as possible.  Or find a basement.  Choose either a bathroom or a hallway....get pillows and even a bed mattress to seperate you from the walls as well.  Stay low and stay tight holding on to anything.  Stay out of areas with windows or breakables as much as you can.  The flying debris can kill you as well.  I am sure you will do fine.  The best thing you can do is not panic, and remain calm...so you are in control of your situation.

Best of luck to you and those that surround you.

  4. the weather will seem to change instantly...like a wind picking up...it gets cold very quickly....and a very dark sky, like a wall cloud
