  1. ok your disposer is jammed. there should be a key that came with the disposer. on higher end models it is attached to the disposer. take this key it looks like an allen wrench. take it and insert it in the hole at the bottom of the disposer and turn it back and forth, thus freeing the disposer. Now find the red button at the bottom of the disposer and then try to turn it on. it should work now.

  2. call a plumber.

  3. There's a red reset button on the unit.  Try pressing that.

  4. An old method to unjam a jammed disposer is, with the disposer off or unplugged if you don't know which way the switch is off, put the handle end of a wooden broom into the opening of the disposal and work it around, trying to feel the food grinding dogs and making sure they are free.  Then, push the red overload button in, plug back in or try the switch to see if it works.

  5. Hi. Unplug the disposal from under the sink rendering it unable to operate. If it is direct wired go flip the breaker to the off position. Take the rubber flange out and look down in there for what is jamming the motor. It may take some doing but sometimes my wife will reach down in there and grab whatever is jamming it. There is usually a socket on the bottom of the disposal that fits a wrench, that should have been left there with the disposal, that you sometimes can turn with the wrench that will free the jam. Plug back in. Push reset. Try switch.

  6. Listen to Loverboy.  The disposal is jammed.  If the tool is gone, a 1/4" allen wrench will also work.  On the bottom of the disposal, in the very center, there should be a small hole.  Insert the wrench into this hole, and turn back and forth, until you feel the unit spin easily.  Remove the tool, and look underneath, for the red reset button.  Push in the reset button, and try the switch, and see if the unit works.  If you hear a humming sound, the unit is still jammed, and you must repeat the process.  Good luck.
