Help, my old Microsoft files won't open in new version?

My university gave us new software to use on our computers.

Unfortunately, my old files from a '03 or '04 Microsoft will no longer open. A few will randomly open as a compatible read copy. Most will not.

How can I open my older files in the new Microsoft Word?

if there is just text in the document then you could open them in to notepad and then copy them into the newer version of word you have :)

Open Program e.g. Word then open  and change the fyle type in dialog box ie at the bottom where options are written. Change  files of types to Word 97 to 2003 and open.

If they gave you the installation CDs, do a reinstall and add the appropriate converters.

If they just installed it for you or gave you access to a basic installation server, contact their IT and ask them to do that for you.  That should (but may not) be standard installation procedure.
