Okay, so I have a 4.33, i just moved to a comepletely different school, and was way behind in everything, i caught up, im a hard worker, and i try so hard at everything i do. I took the PSAT and got 164(equivalent to 1640) and i studied since then, after 5 months of hardcore studying, with princeton review, with collegeboard, with a total of 58 practice tests, my score on the SAT is 1640. The exact same thing, my essay was a 8, even though it was a beautiful essay, with crazy examples, Civil Rights, Night Thoreau Spent in Jail, and The Awakening. I dont understand why my SAT score was so low, all my practice tests are 1750+ what should I do to improve my score for anyone out there who got higher, or who drastically improved, HELP

  1. You probably get to the test and freeze. Try looking up  calming techniques you could practice before the next test. While the instructor is reading the instructions in between each section take a moment to close your eyes. This will help you relax for a few seconds and transition your mind to the next section. Also, you might have had good examples, but maybe you didn't explain them well. You must assume the reader knows nothing. Sleep well the night before and bring a snack and drink and take advantage of the streach breaks. Also, use the college board site as a resource, it helps you analyze your scores and tells you tips to improve too.

  2. yeah idk, i got a 219 on the PSAT, and when i took the SAT i just happened to get a major fluke. A 640 on math for me is just ridiculous, i usually get 800, so u just never know. Take it again, i'm going to. Oh and those examples aren't "crazy" everyone's heard of those

  3. I had a similar situation. My PSAT score was 2140 and after that I took a special SAT course with a guy thats a whiz. I probably took 20 or so SAT practice tests and my scores were probably averages to 2150 or so. However on the day of the SAT i scored only 1960.

I still did some more practice tests and 2 months later i took it again and scored 2110. Although it was lower than my PSAT score, it was much closer to what I had been scoring.

My advice: Take it again. It could possibly just be a fluke score like my first one was. Believe it or not but the average variation for the different SAT tests given each month is pretty high, much higher than one would like them to be for such an important exam. Maybe you took one of the harder tests this year. I also might suggest not taking as many practice tests. 58 is a lot and it might make you sick of the test and also lull you into a false sense of security since you scored so highly, causing you to not be as careful on test day. If you truly want to study something, I would suggest taking a course on the SAT with an instructor who could identify your weaknesses much more accurately than collegeboard.com. Good luck.

  4. For a fee , you can have your test re-scored by hand. This would provide a review  of both the essays and the multiple choice. (http://www.collegeboard.com/student/test...

It also could be (and I don't say this to be rude) that you just don't test well. If you have test anxiety, that could cause a problem. Try to pretend the test is just another practice test, or try deep breathing and relaxation techniques. Also, the college board has just created a new policy. you no longer are required to report all scores, so if you do improve, this bad test won't affect you. If you still are having problems, you could look into different schools that don't require SAT scores, or try the ACTs
