Question:

Help, this filter ruined my tank and life...?

Well, i recently purchased minibow aquarium kit 2.5 gallon from walmart - it was the onlt thing in my range...So, anyway, I already had a tetra, and with this new tank (after it's complete set up), i was going to buy 2 african dwarf frogs...I know, i know; it's a little squished, but whatever. Back to the point, after I completely opened everything to the point where the store won't take it back, I realized that it didn't have an undergravel filter...it came with the Whisper Micro Filter. But that has a lip and everything...so the question is, with this kind of filter, can i still keep 2 dwarf frogs (I only want people who have experience with this filter to answer please). I ask this because, with the filter, you can only fill the tank to the lip (lowering the number of gallons placed in the tank), and most importantly, the top is open...so could the frogs jump out of the water, into the lip of the filter, get caught or stuck within it, starve, and then die? I really care about all my animals, and i just don't see this filter as safe for frogs; but can someone who has this filter tell me more about it, and their personal experiences with it (especially if they've owned frogs)...please. Or can anyone tell me how to keep the filter, and still have frogs, like, for example, completiting lowering the water way below the lip of the filter. Please help everybody, please.

  1. Get a new filter and tank if you need to... the stuff they sell at Wal-Mart is c**p. Buy something from a specialized store like PETCO. They have great stuff there.

  2. A 2.5 is ideal for frog's & your filter will be fine. I would worry more about the frog's jumpin out rather than gettin caught in in the filter. Aquatic frog's manage 2 do pretty well in aquariums with serious filteration systems so go buy u frog's, enjoy & don't stress out over a $2.00 frog & $40.00 tabletop aquabowl.

  3. Better yet go online and see if there is a local fish keepers society. I mean I just so happen to stumble across the one I am active with currently on a google search. I am part of Minnfish.com But this in minnesota. There are site across the nation you just have to search or ask people that have experiance with fish cause chances are they will know about one. If all else fails you can look on craigslist or petcO=.

EDIT: you need a new tank in short.
