Question:

Help,my husband has conviction for possesion of drugs back in 2002,wil this affect our holiday 4 2weeks in NYC

my hubby,when he was 21 got cught with speed in a nightclub,and was arrested and brought 2 court,he was only fined,but of course now has a criminal record,he is now sober for the last 3years an has been on his best behavior,im really worried because we'v booked a holiday to america and he seems to think he doesnt hav to declare his convictions.any advice?????

  1. Where are you?  (I'm guessing the UK?)

    If you are from a country that requires a visa, I think you're toast.

    Other countries (Canada I know does this) share records with the US, and a prior conviction will show up at the border when they run your ID.  A 6 yr old drug conviction will almost certainly bar you from entry.


  2. There is not an easy answer to that question.  If you are from a country that is on the "Friendly" list you could be ok.  If you are from a country that is on the "Watch" list then you may have a problem.

    If he declares his conviction then he will not get in the country.  But stranger things have happened.  This country lets in almost eveyone.  Your chances of getting in are about 50/50.

  3. Are you in Canada? I think you had better check into it. I had a friend who tried to get into the states after a drug conviction and he wasn't allowed. If I were you I'd stop reading and start phoning customs and whoever else.
