  1. because there is lots of water running by lets say that a water molecule takes off a rock molecule the faster the water runs by the more water comes in contact with the rock ripping off a lot more rock if two drops a minuet are falling on the rock it is going to get rid of a small fraction every minuet now if you double the water and speed of the water falling you get twice a much erosion the speed of the water is also important the faster the water then you get more energy in the water when the water hits the rock the energy is sent into the rock blasting off more chunks


  2. Because of friction, fast running water breaks off molecules of minerals and rocks around it, and carries it off with the stream.
