  1. Poor things! First just make sure you stay relaxed, the more upset you get means the more upset he gets. Is this a normal occurrence or is it just tonight? My babies would go on spurts of crying for no reason but they were not colicky. Have you tried feeding him? Changing him? Swaddling him?

  2. The main thing to remember is that babies are meant to cry. It's not a bad thing, it's the only communication they have at that age. Just remember, if you feel stressed, have your husband hold the baby, call your parents/in-laws, or another family member with kids to help.

There are a number of things you left unanswered. Are you breast feeding? Is he getting enough milk? Are you burpring him? Does he cry when he lays flat as opposed to being a little elevated? Sometimes the little slant helps move the milk through the stomach faster.

Also, remember most hospitals/communities have a 24 hour nurses help line to call. They are the most reassuring.

Otherwise take a look at this site:

  3. Hi,

I am so sorry that your little one is so upset.  That is the worst thing to go through as a parent.  I am wondering if you swaddle him?  I was doing some research on swaddling, and there is some evidence that shows that in countries were swaddling is common practise, colic doesn't exist.

If you don't swaddle, maybe try it, wrap him tightly with his arms at his sides for a couple of days.  I still do this with my little one, as I did with my first son, and he is 3.5 months old now.

    I hope this helps.

  4. try a warm bath, a walk outside, a ride in the car, shhhing in his ear, a swing, humming a lullaby. if its colic you may just have to wait it out because sometimes nothing works. good luck

  5. If you are breastfeeding your milk would have come through day 3 right ? If so then baby can suffer alot of wind at these first stages of feeding I would check it has not got wind and needs a good burp.

Its very unusual to get colic at that age my baby was fine until week 4 then bang the colic hit in, has been same from most my friends with coliky babies.  Peak of colic is 5-7 weeks.  If it is colic then the baby will spend more that 3 days  and 3 hours in them days mostly night screaming then thats most likely colic.

Alsso babies just cry for nothing and can be unsettled any time of day but ormally once during the day. I wouldnt just assume colic at this stage :)

Oh and for the answer above me Babies normally grow out of colic at 3 months of age not show symptoms, symptoms will start around 4 weeks!! My 17 week old has just grew out of it !

  6. Newborns cry b/c they are hungry and they cry a lot, not necessarily if they have colic.  Try sushing, rocking her and swaddling her.  If you're still not sure, ask your doctor.  But most of the time they are hungry or need to be changed.  When you get a chance, read the book "The Happiest Baby on the Block" to find out how to soothe your baby.  In my case, my newborn at that time was hungry b/c I was nursing and she was my first and i didn't know she wasn't getting enough milk.

  7. colic is when a baby cries for more than 6 hours every day

  8. Some babies just cry i'm afraid! Other than the usual medicines, etc, try lying baby across your lap on his tummy. Gentle bounce him-it helps relieve any trapped wind and is quite soothing. There's also the 'cuddle cure' (the 5 S's). Swinging, swaddling, sucking (on something), shushing (sound in ear) and Side/Stomach (lying baby on their side or stomach).

It can be hit and miss with colic though-some babies show the symptoms but aren't really suffering from it,they just need a darn good cuddling!

  9. It's really hard when your baby is crying all the time when you are just trying to settle down after giving birth and lots of people say its not possible to get colic so early,my son had it very early on though and we tried everything to calm him down, eventually we had to change his milk, from SMA Gold to Aptamil 1 and use colief drops, they have been a lifesaver, they are expensive but you can get them on prescription,i would talk to your midwife before giving your baby anything though. My Son is 2 months old now and is a lot more settled,it does get better!

  10. Try vanilla ice cream. I heard it from somewhere that it work, I dont really know if it does but take like a little rubber covered spoon for cereal and feed just alittle. Try walking with him, singing, bouncing, or even rubbing his tummy since thats where the problem is coming from. I would suggest pickle juice since its gas in his stomach but he's alittle too young. Good Luck!

  11. i went through this for 6 months with my son and believe me we tried everything. there is no real answer. but you can try very little chamomile tea no sugar. just pat his back rub his tummy warm bath.

    good luck

  12. Ok- Do NOT EVER give a 4 day old baby ice cream-

It isn't colic-   Colic doesn't show up until around 3 month of age.

If your baby is crying a lot, he needs something- try walking around outside with him, wrapping him really snugly in a blanket, change lighting, etc.

At 4 days old, he should be wanting to sleep a LOT,.

  13. we used Colic Calm, ordered it on the internet. works very well. Coliccalm.com, i know its hard but it will end. there are other natural tabs and waters you can buy also.
