Help!!! A good gift/gifts for an adult male who loves to learn?

Question

Ok, so this guy's birthday is a ways away (late September) but I want to get the perfect gift because he is turning 40. He likes to learn about history, travel, conspiracy theories, stuff like that.

For example, one of his favorite gifts was when a friend saw an article in TIME about the top 25 science books and got him every book on the list.

Another gift that was given to him last year was an itouch with downloaded lectures from different universities.

One of the things that I was looking into was the Best of the History Channel dvds but not completely sold on it.

He also loves interesting coffee table books.

BTW, money is not an issue.

Any ideas are welcome and thanks!!!

why not to a history museum tickets  or even get him some subscriptions to time or some type of mag. or some tickets for some live  lectures that might be around your area?

National Geographic has a site called Novica that has some amazing stuff on it from all over the world.

I think a subscription to one of those conspiracy theory magazines would be good (I don't know what any of them are called, sorry), or season tickets to the local science or history museums.  I think that Best of the History Channel idea was a great one.  If not the Best of, go through their or A&E's catalog and pick out ones that you think he'd like so that it's tailored to him.  Since he likes to learn about different places, you might try National Geographic, they've got all kinds of stuff to choose from that would deal with history and travel; Discovery's website might be a good place to look, also.

Also to consider is finding out if there are any re-enactments going on in your area and get him tickets to things like that, or tickets to interesting lectures or to meet an author he likes (and the means to travel there if it's not local).  If you local museum has interesting collections coming, there are usually separate tickets to those, so that might be good.
