Question:

Help! Amoxicillin side effects!?

by  |  earlier

I'm pretty sure I'm not allergic to penicillin since my mom says I was tested for it before some operation when I was younger (I'm 13).

When I first took it yesterday I didn't have many side effects except sort of a stomach ache and a weird feeling I can't really describe. Anyway now I've been getting diarrhea and it really sucks. I read on here to both avoid dairy and to eat yogurt, I can't do both, so does eating yogurt help? What should I do? I need to take the amoxicillin for a UTI by the way...

  1. It's a side effect (just took some myself).  Though I didn't get the side effect the doc told me it might happen.  Yogurt might help but you also may just have to suffer through it or ask for another prescription .  It's not like it's the only antibiotic out there.

  2. Amox has a real strong effect on the stomach, I suggest a good meal with dose as well as drink plenty of water. That has helped me with my bubble guts which I get with most medications.  FOOD and WATER! Hope it turns around for you.  Do not stop taking in any case!!

    Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

        *

          fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash;

        *

          nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);

        *

          diarrhea that is watery or bloody;

        *

          fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms;

        *

          easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness;

        *

          urinating less than usual or not at all;

        *

          agitation, confusion, unusual thoughts or behavior; or

        *

          seizure (black-out or convulsions).

    Less serious side effects are more likely to occur, such as:

        *

          nausea, vomiting, stomach pain;

        *

          vaginal itching or discharge;

        *

          headache;

        *

          swollen, black, or "hairy" tongue; or

        *

          thrush (white patches or inside your mouth or throat).

    This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Tell your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effect."
