Are you happy with the gerbils you got from PetSmart? Is PetCo any better?

i have one hamster i got form petsmart for 15$. All animals you get from pet stores will be afrade of you. Mine dosent bite but he dosent like to be held. I got another one from a lady that breads them and hadels the babys daily and the one i got from her (much cheaper for 5$) loves to be held and has never bit. i love them both. The one we got from the petstore is much cuter. He is hard to get out of his cage. they are both dwarf hamsters. If i where you i would ask the person that was getting them for you if they bit. becuase my nabor has one she got from petsmart as well and it bit me twice and i only held it once. Petco is no differnce. So it depends on the animal. I once had a rat and it loved to be held even tho we got it at a pet store. hope i helped pick me as best ancer please i need points. thanks.

PetSmart is definately better. That's where I got my gerbil.

I'm happy with my gerbils from PetSmart. Although, I would have rather went with a breeder or shelter. My local PetCo doesn't seem better than PetSmart. I went to both when I chose my gerbils. The gerbils at PetCo looked sick. There was one who could barely keep here eyes open, and she was so tiny. It looked like she might have had diarrhea, too. The ones at my local PetSmart looked healthy, so I went with them.

Please keep in mind that both PetSmart and PetCo, along with many other pet stores, get their animals from mills. In these mills, animals are bred in mass quantities purely for profit. Health and temperament are not a concern. If you can, try a breeder or check out http://www.petfinder.com for gerbils up for adoption in your area.

PetSmart is usually a better place to get animals from if you must. PetCo has been raided for unsanitary conditions with feral rat in their shops and warehouses.

If you want a gerbil, you should try to find a breeder in your area as you get cheaper, healthier gerbils.
