Ok. I have that stupid good for nothing McAfee system. I also have all that security and pop-up blockers and so on but the pop-ups keep coming on. Some of them are just ads to work at home and so on. But most of them are the anti-virus ones and they're just annoying. I've run Super Antispyware 3 times now and it hasn't worked .... the pop-ups keep coming up. And yeah, I did check for updates and reboot. I don't know what else to do because Super Anti-spyware usually does the trick. Any ideas or answers??? And please I am computerically retarded so please keep it simple or extremely step-by-step oriented! Thanks for any advice and help!!!

  1. It sounds like you have a serious ad-ware / malware infection.  Super AntiSpyware is good, but a single spyware app isn't effective enough.

Grab Spyware Doctor Starter Edition:  http://pack.google.com/intl/en/pack_inst...

It's part of the Google pack.  Uncheck everything but Spyware Doctor and download the installer.  Run a Full Scan.  (Make sure you're running a "Full Scan" with Super Antispyware too).

    Next grab CCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/

Run the Cleaner and the Registry cleaner.

If McAfee isn't doing the job for you, try Avast Home Edition (Free): http://www.download.com/Avast-Home-Editi...

    or

    Anti-Vir Personal (Free):  http://www.download.com/Avira-AntiVir-Pe...

This should do a pretty good job of cleaning up your system.  If you still have issues after all of this download Hijack This:  http://www.download.com/Trend-Micro-Hija...

Then post your log file at:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/

They should be able to help you the rest of the way.

  2. Sometimes that is an actual program doing that. Are usually downloaded when allowing an ActiveX control that is supposed to be downloading a codec for a movie for example. Anti-virus wont pick it up because it isn't a virus. Try going into your "add/remove programs" in the control panel and look for oddball programs you dont think you should have installed. They sometimes have innocent names like "shop-wise". Uninstall the ones you know you shouldn't have.

  3. Next time, don't download p**n and viruses.

  4. Try a online virus scan here are some address to try Safety.Live.com...TrendMicro.com...Kaspe... after wards get some protection Comodo.com is offering a complete security suite free and yes they can be trusted if you want to do it yourself I recommend Avira.com along with Safer-Networking.org(spybot search&destory) or SpywareBlaster from majorgeeks.com or Lavasoft.com...MalwareBytes.org is another good one to consider althrough the last two don't offer free protection some even recommend two anti-spyware scanners just to be on the safe side the other bit of advice i have to offer is external firewalls they hardwire to the machine with usb or firewire hook up now thats cutting edge tech.Remember paid is usally better that free however since Comodo.com kind offer that may not be the case anymore

  5. Usually when I'm having problems with my computer I scan it with this:

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

It's free and it works really well.

    Hope this helps! =)

  6. Reboot your computer using SAFE MODE.  You get to SAFE MODE by hitting the F8 key while your computer boots.  When the SAFE MODE screen appears, select Safe Mode with Networking.

Once your computer has finished booting into SAFE MODE, you should run your Anti-spyware program again.  Also run your Anti-virus program.  If you don't have one, download AVG Free 8.0 and run it.

I am not familiar with Super Antispyware, so I hope it is a good program.  I prefer Spybot and Ad-aware.  After you run these cleaning programs, reboot your computer.

Turn on your popup blockers again.  If you still get popups, you may have to run your programs again  . . . and again.  It sometimes takes a couple passes for the programs to find all the spyware since spyware sometimes "hides behind other spyware".

And be careful from now on about downloading anything, especially attachments that come with emails.  Also, never download video clips, especailly from questionable websites (and I've seen viruses come from religious sites as well as p**n sites).
