i found a white spot under my Betta and ive heard that finding a white spot under there means that its a female... now my Betta also has long fins like how a normal male betta would have NOTE: i have a young Betta (got it from a breeder) so that also means the male i have has the length of its fins as a female would have at this stage. now my Betta Flares up whenver it sees itself (when i put the mirror in its face)

now my real question is. is my Betta Male or female? and do females even Flare up (like show the side gills)??

please help

  1. females can be just as bright as males (I had a sorority, I know).

so his fins aren't long yet? there is a chance it may be a female, some females flare. but some males have white dots on their bellies too. basically, you're going to have to wait until it grows to find out.

btw, saw your answer to another question... does this look like a puddle?

that is a rice paddy, where bettas live. they are shallow but very large and definitely not puddles. please don't spread the myth.

  2. Female beta's don't have the brillent colors like the males.  2 Male beta's can not be put in the same tank - they will kill each other - nick name for them is chinese fighting fish
