Help Buying new receiver?

I'm not all that electronic savvy and I bought the sony srg520 and am now reading that this receiver doesn't "process the audio found on the HDMI inputs, nor will it transcode or upscale analog and component video inputs to the HDMI output or vis versa." I just plan on watching movies, playing ps3,other normal activities on my Lcd 42inch screen; what does the no upscaling and no processing of audio mean in terms of quality, sound, etc.

  1. Since you are using PS3, you don't have to worry about whether your new receiver can decode audio format and upscale picture  or not because PS3 itself can do both. All you need is a receiver which can receive LPCM format. Onkyo 606 or Yamaha 663 will be enough for your needs. Cheaper option may be Sony HT-SF2000.

  2. hello.  scrap that Sony     get an Onkyo 605 series easy to set up with your Hdmi    its Hdmi in and out   good quality amp for the $$ far beats the Sony
