Help? Car audio?

Recently i bought a brand new alpine type-r 10" dual voice coil (4ohms)sub which I placed in a 1.4 (Cu ft) ported box(Aiming for SPL, yet with decent SQ) tuned for 40Hz, by bassworx. To power this I also purchased an alpine mrp-m1000 (1000W's at 2ohms, 600W's x at 4ohms). I was going to buy the mrp-m650(600watts at 2) but luck was on my side and i recieved the more powerful amp for the same price.

This is my first ever setup and was wondering if anyone see's any flaws in it...

-Is the amp to powerful, or should i be fine as long as i adjust the gain?

-Correct box?

If anyone could list any other tips or hints about car audio that would be great. thanks!!!

:D

  1. your amps too big bro. you would be better off with a kicker zx400.1 or a zx500.1 that amp has enough power to use two of those subs. and if that box was made by a car audio dealer than its gotta be made right

  2. i dont think that amp will be good for the build.

you are using one Type-R 4 ohm dvc, 500 watts rms. this can be wired to 2 ohms or 8 ohms.

    the amp, Alpine MRP-M1000, is:

    4 ohms: 600 watts rms x 1 chan.

    2 ohms: 1000 watts rms x 1 chan.

there for, you will be overpowering the subwoofer if its wired to 2 ohms, and will blow. if the sub is wired to 8 ohms, it will have very little power and wont perform at its maximum potential.

if you want to keep that amp, i would advice you to try returning that sub, and get the dual 2 ohm voice coil version. this will allow you to wire it to 4 ohms.

on a side note, the box cubic feet is right. but i would had gone with a lower tuning frequency of 32 Hz. this will allow you to have good sound quality and be loud as well. but 40 Hz is great for db drags.

    good sub by the way.
