  1. On one side of the lower unit there are 2 screws.  The drain s***w is on the bottom of the front of the gearcase.  The vent s***w is near the top of the lower unit.

Trim the motor all the way down.  Place something under the lower unit to catch the oil.  Remove the drain s***w then remove the vent s***w and let all the oil run out.

Check the oil coming out for any type of metal chunks or large shavings.  If the drain s***w has a magnet on it it is normal to see some small metal shavings.

After all the oil has drained out s***w the tube of oil or oil pump hose, whichever you have, into the drain hole.  Fill the lower unit with oil until it comes out of the vent hole.

Next put the vent s***w back in making sure the on the s***w is in good shape.  If not, replace the seal.  Then unscrew the oil tube or pump hose and quickly put the drain s***w back in.  Again, before putting the drain s***w back in check the seal.

  2. There are two screws on the lower unit.  The top being the vent and the bottom being the filler s***w.  Have a pan large enough to catch all the oil that drains out.  You will want to inspect this oil for water and sign of metal flakes as that could be a sign of some damage.  You can buy a kit that will pump the oil from the lube container into the bottom s***w hole.  Also be sure you buy the lower end lube that is specified for your outboard motor.  After the lower end drains for about an hour, connect the kit tio the bottom hole and pump the oil in until it comes out of the top hole.  Then s***w in the top s***w firmly.  Quickly remove the filler kit and quickly insert the bottom s***w and tighten it securely.  Once you have cleaned the grease up you should be set to go.

  3. BJ and JRAY answered this correct .... Just have plenty of paper towels on hand it can be messy! Also have extra lower unit oil on hand in case you have problems extracting the lower fill kit and replacing the orig s***w.
