Help! Diarrhea is black!?

I've been having an upset stomach for about a day now. Over the past 24 hours it just felt like I needed to throw up, but low and behold, I didn't. I've been taking Pepto Bismol once and a while when those sharp pains in my stomach occur. This morning I felt better than ever, but about an hour ago, I felt the pains again that led to diarrhea...which was black. It looked as though someone took a handful of dirt and put it in the toilet.

I've been reading around to this problem, but haven't found any accurate responses.

Please help. I really need to know if this isn't serious!!

Pepto bismol can cause stool to turn black, it's nothing serious and it should return back to normal after a few days.

the pepto is turning your stool black.

stop taking it and see if there is a change.

if there isn't, get to a doctor or hospital.

Go to the ER your may have got food poisoning from something you eat

If you read the back of the Pepto bottle it will say that it will turn your stool a dark color, you are fine.  It will also cause your tongue to turn dark too, relax.  If you stop taking the Pepto; your stool will return to its normal color.  I was also freaked out by this the first time.

Go to the hospital immediately. You could be having internal bleeding.
