Hi - I live in Scranton, PA, and am taking the Martz bus to NYC but don't have a clue where to go eat a great lunch off the beaten track. I hate the Times Square area and hope you can guide me to a different part of the city. Thanks sooo very much.

  1. MARKT, this is a Belgian cafe with great food, fun atmosphere (indoor and outdoor seating) and a dreamy beer selection! Take the 1 Train to 23rd and 7th or a roughly $6 cab ride to 21st and 6th.

  2. Take the N,W or R Train to either 23rd or Union Square 14th Street. Choose from this:

Blue Water Grill or Gramercy Tavern (eat in bar)

  3. Try the West Village. Take the 7th Avenue subway towards downtown and exit at Christopher Street/Sheridan Square.

The Village is a great area to walk around in. A very "human scale" neighborhood without the skyscrapers....it's all brownstones and tons of trees. Great shopping and sightseeing. Wonderful restaurants on every block to choose from. Some of my favorites:

Mary's Fish Camp - cute place, GREAT Lobster Roll!

Le Gigot - another great place, on a painfully cute street

Extra Virgin - creative Mediterranean food

Deborah -  creative and inexpensive...nice service!

Have fun exploring...you'll love the Village!
