Question:

Help! Dorm Room Feng Shui questions...?

by  |  earlier

My roommate and I are trying to impliment feng shui into our dorm room. Our door faces west at the end of a hallway and we have four windows facing east and south. Our beds are against the west wall, and the desks are against the north. We also have a tv, refrigerator, microwave and video game console in the southeast corner of the room. Just a few questions...

1) Is there anything about our room configuration that strikes you as very bad feng shui?

2) Are bunked beds good or bad feng shui?

3) Is it best to keep the dorm room open with lots of floor space or divide the sleeping area and study area?

4) What is the best placement for a single betta splendens in a small nonfiltered bowl? In a small tank with a filter?

5) What are some ways to reduce school and career related anxiety?

Thank you in advance!

  1. Sounds like you got more than Feng Shui challenges.  The bunkbeds are a no-no.  The beds facing east is best-sun raising in the east thing.  The desk should face incoming chi, toward the door with a plant sitting in the corner to provide good flow.

Floorspace either way is good, but must be clean and neat.  That's a hard one.

  2. Number one thing don't have a lot of clutter in your room. I would not worry to much about every direction. The basic principle's of Feng Shui can be accomplished with out you worrying about every direction. You will stress yourself out. I would recommend you get a Feng Shui kit at my shui, they have everything you need in one kit. You can get the one for career.  Its not expensive and you and your room mate can learn from it. Remember you should benefit from Feng Shui not let it stress you out.

Good Luck this year it sounds like your going to start the year off right!!

  3. - the door of your dorm room is not important in fengshui, bec the chi or energy that comes into your dorm room orginally comes in from the door of the dorm building; thus, the direction (how many degrees, specifically) does the main front door of the dorm building faces.

    - it does not matter what you have inside your domr room; what matters are where your dorm building is located in what kind of environment/ structures around, where is your dorm room located in the big building (if your room is near to the entrance/ main door, then you receive better quality chi/ energy), where you beds are located in relation to the center of your room, what direction are you facing when watching the tv or most of the time, while in your room.

    - where you cook food, is used to attract wealth in fengshui, so, it must be located and directed in a specific direction, which is different from person to person.

    - bunk beds are not bad in fengshui, they are just beds

    - it does not matter if you keep the floor space open or divide it up, bec fengshui is more than the arrangement of things inside the room; as i mentioned before, it is more important where you are inside the big building

    - and fengshui is based on fengshui concepts/ techniques, not on some diy or general guidelines; the concepts are based on specific measurements, calculations and analysis.

    - it is not a good idea to put a fish tank inside your dorm room

    - there is a way to get better at studies, it is where you put your desk. but again, you need to learn the fengshui techniques or get a fengshui practitioner to do it for you. it is not the same for all houses or all people.

    - and fengshui has a time element; thus, fengshui can change from year to year or day to day - depends on what technique you are using, and how it is used.

  4. Considering the size and orientation of most dorm rooms, it will probably be practically impossible to rearrange beds, etc, to conform where each of you should place them.  I'd leave the furniture alone, and concentrate on simplifying the space and hiding or disguising things that have to be there - like covering the appliances when not in use with a simple cloth (go to Hancock fabric's remnant tables).  You definitely need some plants and maybe a moving waterfall item.  And something that makes a faint noise (chimes). Get under the bed boxes and put most of your stuff out of sight completely.  Have natural baskets for things on your desks, and keep the clutter down.
