Question:

Help Evalutating Horse's Conformation?

Can someone please help me judge my horse's conformation? I'm usually really good with this type of stuff, but I fear that I am trying to make myself see the lighter side of things because she is mine. PLEASE don't be shy, and no sugar-coating allowed :) Thank you!

One Year (She is really under herself in this one, I think because she is grazing?):

  1. Pros:

    She has good hindquarters

    Good shoulder

    Good neck attatchment

    Pretty Face

    Nice front legs

    Good Hooves

    Cons:

    I dont like her neck

She is down hill. She might even out a little more but then again, she may not.

He back legs a little straight.

    Longish back (maybe)

Some of these might be my imagination but its what I see. If she evens out and gets a little more muscle on her neck she looks like she will be a really good horse. What are you planning to do with her?

  2. Hard to tell really with those photos - you need to take some of her from the side standing up properly, from straight behind and from straight in front. All with her head up.

From the ones you posted she looks sickle hocked, goose rumped and base narrow. Her neck looks weak and her pastern angles look wrong.

However, as I said the photos don't really do her any favours - it might just be that she was feeling sleepy and droopy at the time that you took them.

I'd try again with different pictures - get someone to take them while you hold her.

Love the colour though and she has a very pretty face.

  3. she looks lovely and trust me, i do NOT sugar coat!

her legs are straight and perfectly lined up, her back is a good length (not too short but not too long) and she is well in proportion.

she is a truly lovely little filly and if you ever want to sell her, you hvae your buyer!!!

  4. Some of the pictures are hard to tell because her head is down and eating. But it looks to me that she is kind of downhill... Because of this she could have a little bit of a harder time jumping, since her front is lower than her hind-quarters.

I would suggest when riding, find a saddle pad that you can put shims in to make the front of your saddle higher, so then it is even, this will make sure there arent as many pressure points as well as be more comfortable for you.

Other than that, looks pretty good. Try getting a picture from straight on, so then you can get a feel for her shoulders and legs.

    Good Luck. =]

  5. i'll keep my answer short (people dont like my opinion on conformation of their horses, so i'm used to the thumbs down and i hate you letters)

    i like her face/eyes.

    i like her shoulder.

    i dont like her neck.

over all she isnt that bad, kinda cute, and is growing nicely.

edit: i will note that if she has any quater horse in her, that the down hill part is considered good for that breed. .. . i dont exactly know what breed she is, her face looks slightly dished and leads me to think she may have arab in her, where as much as she's down hill i'm also thinking quater horse....

conformation faults vary according to breed standards.

  6. Hi.  Not trying to be rude, but you really need to stand her up properly and take the pics from the correct angles, including front and back,  for us to give a good evaluation.  That said, she looks light behind, and post-legged.  And camped under.  Her feet look small, and it looks like she's got low heel/long toe going on.  Might be just the picture angle.   The length of her back, and shoulder and pastern angle looks ok.  The length of her cannon looks good, and her knees  look fairly large and flat.  Can't see her neck, at all.  She has a very pretty head and nice eyes.

  7. Well, I think she's pretty! I love the zebra stripes on her legs ;)

She looks sickle-hocked in most of the pictures, but not all, so I'm not sure if that's the pose or if she really is. She might toe out a bit in the back, but barely noticable. I'm not crazy about her hip, but I'm used to my big QH's hips. She has a kind of small neck, and could use some topline muscling all over. She's downhill, but hopefully that's just because she's still young, so maybe she'll even out eventually. I like her shoulder a lot! Much better than my horses shoulders. Oh well. Beautiful girl!

  8. I pretty much agree with everyone else. Her neck is a little akward, but I think with muscle and a little bit of fat she will look nice. LOVE her eyes and head...she had beautiful doe eyes fro the begining xD I am not good with legs, but to me something looks a little off about them, kinda "stub" like...but not sure. Her hindquarters and shoulder look about right, not great but I ahve SOOOO seen worse :)

Overall I don't see any major flaws I personally think everything will fill out just fine, since she is still pretty young xD She is a pretty filly looks really simular to a horse I helped train named Shilo haha

  9. Well her conformation is ok but the legs aren't the best...also take a picture of the front of her (with her chestfacing you) that ways you can get an idea if she is cowhocked (bad spelling sorry). She is pretty though!!

  10. Do you have any pictures of her with her head up & with her standing  a bit more square???

Because these all make her look under in the front & she also looks too straight in the hind legs.

I also do not like her neck & she does appear down hill & a bit long backed.
