I am looking for an appaloosa stud. I have a mare. I found a stud but learned he was only 4 and his fahter was in my mares pedigree.. So i took it off the possiblities.. I cant seem to find anything. Thier is one necessity a short back. My mares it kind of long besides that it must be tall. I am trying to get a 15+hand appaloosa I would love a 16 hand appaloosa but not necissary. and has to have artifical insemination. I am looking for a fee under 450.00

  1. Here's a 15.2 hand chestnut leopard Appaloosa stallion...He was the Appaloosa World Cutting Horse Futurity Non-Pro Champion as a three year old.

No pics on his ad, but maybe I can find his personal website:

  2. if the relation is like 5 generations back then i'm pretty sure your mare will be perfectly fine. try http://www.dreamhorse.com

  3. Find a futurity with a stallion auction!  You attend a stallion auction - they can be one specific breed (like appaloosa or QH) or a bunch of breeds if it's an open futurity.

Then you buy your stud fee - and the money goes to the club who sponsored the auction.  Typically you pay less than what the normal stud fee is.  You still have to pay mare care or AI fees - but you get a quality breeding for less.

Then, the next year when you have a foal on the ground - you enter your foal in the futurity and you compete in halter to win the money that everyone contributed at the stallion auction for stud fees.  It ends up being a big pot - hundreds or thousands of dollars.

You can google "appaloosa stallion auction minnesota" and you'll get a bunch of options.  Or whatever state it is that you live in.

That also makes the foal worth more money when they're eligible to enter in futurities.

    Best wishes!

Edit:  here is the list of some of the stallions that were in the local stallion auction in my area - a bunch of QH's and paints, a few apps, and a few other horses.  http://www.wagonwheelfarm.net/2008%20Lea...

  4. Check sites like equine.com, horsetopia.com, horseclicks.com, etc - they usually all have a stud listing.

  5. Dream horse has a search for studs

  6. How far back in your mares pedigree, is the studs sire. If it is 2 generations or more back, you would be able to breed her to him. There are a lot of big named horses out there who were bred closer than that.

No that far back would be ok. I have several horses that have the same horse on both sides and if you go back in their pedigrees, you will see some that were bred closer than 5 generations.

    Look at this mares pedigree
