A fish came down with Ich! I had absolutely no experience with treating sick fish and the stuff I find in the internet seemed scary and I don't know where to start! Help, how can I save my fish without damaging the tank or anything else? Please tell me a good website to read and give me some tips if you can!

Thanks a lot!

  1. Ichonex is a great product you can get it from your pet store. Add as per instructions. 5ml per 40 ltrs of water on the first day then half the dose for the second and 3rd day. if you are using an under gravel filter slow the flow rate.Make sure you airrate the tank remove the carbon from the filter, do not feed the fish for that period and leave the lights off. No need to remove fish from tank just do a 50% water change after the 3rd day and replace the carbon. Its easy to treat and your fish will be as good as gold.

  2. I would change the water of the fish tank and hope for the best.

  3. Do not separate your fish with obvious ich. It could still be hiding in the gravel, or could show up on other fish since it's contagious. Go to a pet store and buy a medication for parasites or ich. Rid-Ich is a good one. Read the directions, and follow them, but it's usually something along the lines of remove the carbon/charcoal from your filter (it absorbs medications and chemicals, which would then make the medicine useless) and dose x teaspoons per x gallons. Most of them say repeat until gone, then 3 days after visual symptoms are gone. some may recommend a water change.

  4. first of all, if there are any other fish in your tank, immediatley put the sick fish in a seperate bowl. there are medicens at pet stores to treat ich.

    good luck!

  5. it depends on what type of fish you have. msot tropical fish can withstand temperatures of 86*f (30*c). in my experiences, ick won't develop in a tank that is kept fairly warm, as it cannot stand higher temperatures. so, raise the temperature a little. you can also drop into the pet store and get some ick medication. treat as directed on the bottle.

here is a fantastic site with many different illnesses and parasites. it is designed for bettas, but don't dispare, the same goes for all tropical fish:

    good luck! :)

  6. Ok the first thing you need to do is go to a pet store and get some ich medication for your fish.

Replace the filter stuff with new ones and treat your fish.

I believe 1 capful treats 10 gallons of water,

Follow the instructions of how long you should treat your fish.

Ich is a very easy thing to treat and will most likely go away within a few days of treating.

To keep diseases out of my tank i put a teaspoon of pickling salt for every 10 gallons of water and i have never had another problem with my fish and its been 1 whole year.

Hope this helped, Good luck with your fish!
