Help! My toilet is not working!! It was working earlier, but now when we flush it...it fills with water but does not go down with any power. It just slowly empties at a trickle? What happened??? We tried plunging...no success/ nothing happened. We poured draino down it...nothing.

What happened? What can we do to fix this? (No, no one took a big poo and clogged it!!)

  1. Oh that sounds so familiar.  When my kids were young they through toys down the toilet. You can't plunge them out.  If it was toilet paper and c**p, then you'd be able to plunge it.  If theres a toy in it, then its a done deal. You will have to replace the toilet.  Its messy but easy, just remove the screws holding it to floor. Place a new gasket on (should get one when you buy new toilet) floor around hole. Put new toilet on top and replace screws holding it to floor.

I replaced toilets twice for toys. I knew it was toys because I stuck my hand down as far as I could feel and actually felt the toys.

  2. I'm not sure what kind of draino you tried.  I always use a brand called Momar and it has always cleared my drains.  Generally if this doesnt work it is a sign of a bigger problem down the line.  I would be calling a plumber.

  3. You could buy a tool called a toilet auger, for about $15, and try that.  If that doesn't help, you probably have an obstruction in the sewer main pipe, and will need a sewer machine.  Good luck!

  4. something is definitly stuck .   Good news is you don't have to replace the toilet, but you will have to remove the toilet off the floor tip it on it's side and pull out whatever is lodged inside... shut off the water supply , flush to get water out of the tank .. use a small pan or a shop/vac to remove exess water... remove the 2 nuts on the bottom of the bowl then pick up the toilet turn it over and see what you've got.. SOUNDS GROSS huh  YES IT IS.. Remove the old wax ring (go to the hardware store get a new one) Install the new ring... bolt down the toilet re-attach the supply line(water line) and turn on... Good luck and becareful not to over tighten the nuts on the flange bolts...
